Artful Designer Front Cover

Detailed Description

James Gardner has been a highly signi- ficant figure in the history of design in Britain, his career since the Second World Warembracing such celebrated projects as the 'Britain Can Make It' exhibition, the Festival of Britain (most notably the Festival Gardens, Batter- sea), the British contribution to the Brussels World Fair of 1958, the QE2 ocean liner, the Evoluon Technological Museum at Eindhoven, the Museum of the Diaspora in Tel Aviv, and the National Museum of Natural Science in Taiwan.

Like many other autobio- graphies of those connected with British design in the twentieth century The ARTful Designer makes its own distinc- tive contribution to the perpetuation of historical myths. But, seemingly most important to the author is his self- portrayal as a non-conforming, irrever- ent, idiosyncratic, strong-minded, and talented problem-solver and 'character'.
