Detailed Description

This publication accompanied the exhibition Sex and Consumerism: Contemporary Art in Japan which was intended to platform Japanese contemporary art after the 1990s which saw a resurgence of the imaging of sex and consumerism. It shows the work of eight artists, living and working in Japan, who came to artistic maturity during the late 1980s and examines their critical engagement with issues of gender, sexuality and commerce within the specific conditions of contempoarary Japanese culture.

The book contains text and images from the following artists: Makoto Aida, Peter Bellars, Bubu, Takahiro Fujiwara, Hiroshi Masuyama, Hiroko Okada, Yoshiko Shimada and Koji Tanada.
