Course Description

This will be an exciting day in the University of Brighton Fashion Communications studio, observing the figure from a fashion perspective. Working with short poses with a fully clothed life model, you will learn to experiment with different media and start to observe the key lines working towards the essential shapes for a fashion illustration to work.

These ideas will work well with beginners to fashion illustration as well as the more experienced. Our methods of teaching will enhance the experienced eye as well as supporting newcomers to the idea of illustration towards observation of line, shape and silhouette. One thing which will be sure, you will be in a supportive environment with your work and be able to gain confidence to progress further with your ideas of illustration, use of media, colour as well as observing movement, line, contour in fashion.

Our tutor is an experienced and current fashion illustrator who has much to impart about the fashion industry as well as skills and short cuts around drawing the figure. Observing form and outline from a fashion perspective is very different to life drawing, the idea is to convey the nature and materials of the clothing and make the figure active and alive. You will be able to see what others create and enjoy a fun day of experimentation, taking with you your drawings and fashion illustrations as well as peer support from the experience of the day.

What’s included: A live model will be working with the class on the day of the course. All paper, chalks and charcoal will be provided.
