Pattern Anatomies

Learn how to make sustainable garment patterns to standard sizes or personal measurements. This jam-packed day will focus on the different methods of zero-waste cutting. You will learn a whole new set of shape-making skills for fashion design. If you are more experienced, you will have the opportunity to push boundaries and develop these skills in unique ways. We will work with half scale mannequins, traditional 2D block templates and geometric draping techniques before scaling patterns up to full size. Use one or more techniques to create your finished piece.

Learn how to make sustainable garment patterns to standard sizes or personal measurements. This jam-packed day will focus on the different methods of zero-waste cutting. You will learn a whole new set of shape-making skills for fashion design. If you are more experienced, you will have the opportunity to push boundaries and develop these skills in unique ways. We will work with half scale mannequins, traditional 2D block templates and geometric draping techniques before scaling patterns up to full size. Use one or more techniques to create your finished piece.

Students each need to bring their own equipment: A pencil, set square, ruler, tape measure, dress making pins, paper scissors, needle and cotton.

Material will be provided by the University, For each student: 3 metres of pattern cutting paper, 2 metres of medium weight calico and the use of studio space with mannequins.

 

In addition, please note that this course is subject to a minimum number requirement of students and, while we sincerely hope that the course will run as expected, the University of Brighton reserves the right to cancel the programme and/or alter the individual details of the course workshops as necessary. Such a cancellation by the University of Brighton before the first session will result in a full refund.
